Synergies: Czech Republic at the forefront of the new RIMA network

On 13 June, the European Commission announced the creation of a new network within the ERA Action no. 16 “Improving EU-wide access to excellence” called RIMA (R&I and Cohesion Managing Authorities' Network), co-chaired by DG RTD, DG REGIO and the Czech Republic. The aim of this group is to create a platform for dialogue and coordination of activities between the Commission and the Member States in order to ensure synergies between all relevant sources of funding to support research and innovation.

Current issues, priorities and challenges in the realm of synergies:

• European Court of Auditors´ audit on "Synergies between Horizon 2020 and European Structural and Investment Funds: not yet used to full potential"

• Innovation Valleys
• the latest developments on Widening actions
• new Community of Practice on Smart Specialisation

The group also discussed the first concrete cases of implementing the new toolbox for synergies as outlined in the EU guidance notice on Horizon Europe – ERDF synergies published in Nov 2022.
