Two important events took place in Stockholm lately: a conference on “Economic perspectives on gender-based violence – paving paths to prevention” and an informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for research.
From 1-2 February, Paulina Brandberg, the Swedish Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for Employment, Helena Dalli, European Commissioner for Equality and Carlien Scheele, European Institute for Gender Equality Director including experts from over 25 countries discussed two intersecting challenges in the fight for Gender Equality: women’s economic empowerment and prevention and fight against gender-based violence. The Swedish presidency puts high on the agenda these issues, because "women’s financial autonomy is crucial to be able to walk away from violent situations." The overall goal is to propose a comprehensive legislation. The recording as well as further statistical information about these priorites are available here.
On February 8, then, and informal meeting of EU nember states research ministers took place, during which they publicly debated two current issues: the use of data from research infrastructures and open access to scientific publications. More information available in the Press Releases and Joint Press Conferences.
