Public consultation on Critical Raw Materials
Mon May 25 13:30:52 CEST 2026
The European Commission opened a public consultation on EU Critical Raw Materials. All stakeholders, including academic experts, are welcome to contribute to this consultation.
The Commission will collect experiences and views from stakeholders to take consideration of the information on the problems and potential solutions.
Critical raw materials are of exceptional economic importance for the EU. They are obtained from abroad. In the event of restrictions on their imports, the EU doesn´t have enough high-quality and affordable substitutes. The reason for this initiative is also the need to respond to the EU's growing geopolitical dependence on other countries.
Based on the Draghi report, the Commission is planning to set up an EU Critical Raw Materials Centre consisting of 4 strands:
- joint purchasing,
- stockpiling,
- investments,
- raw materials intelligence
