New Zealand newly associated to the 2nd pillar of the HE

Fri Jul 21 13:44:43 CEST 2023

On 9 July, the negotiation process for New Zealand's Horizon Europe 2nd pillar association was completed. It is the first country that is physically distant and at the same time close. Negotiations with Canada, South Korea and Japan are ongoing.

Affiliation with Horizon Europe means that researchers and organisations in New Zealand will be able to participate in Pillar 2 of HE, which is primarily focused on common global challenges in climate, energy, mobility, digital, industry and space, health and more. Thanks to the association, they can collaborate on equal conditions as entities from EU Member States and will have access to Horizon Europe funding and networks of researchers in Europe and beyond to address global challenges.

Formal EU-New Zealand research and innovation relations date back to 2009, when a scientific and technological cooperation agreement was signed.
