New European Innovation Agenda and Regional Innovation Valleys

Wed Mar 29 13:35:22 CEST 2023

A call for expressions of interest as part of a plan to establish 100 Regional Innovation Valleys was launched on 28 March by the European Commission and is open until Sep 18, 2023.

The programme is part of the New European Innovation Agenda announced in July 2022 that aims to make the EU a leader in deep-tech innovation. The Valleys initiative is meant to build on both the Smart Specialisation initiative and the Partnerships for Regional Innovation (PRIs), announced in May 2022, which, however, the Czech Republic is not a participant of.

The aim is to make use of the synergical potential of the Cohesion Policy Funds and the Horizon Europe programme to support interregional cooperation for innovation.

This initiative builds on over 180 national and regional Smart Specialisation Strategies and, where applicable, on the participation in the pilot action Partnerships for Regional Innovation (PRIs).

Express your committment by 18 September 2023 here.

Watch out also for the launch of two calls for proposals on 17 May 2023 under the European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) part of Horizon Europe, and the Interregional Innovative Investments (I3) of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). With a focus on addressing the innovation divide, a total of €170 million is allocated, €100 million and €70 million respectively.
