Ireland has launched the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

Ireland holds the EU Presidency for the eight time. It is the first country to launch the Ireland-Lithuania-Greece trio Presidency.

The following legislative documents will be discussed during the Irish Presidency: the European Innovation Act, the Single Basic Act (this is a change to selected institutionalised European research partnerships, which should operate on the basis of joint undertakings), the EURATOM Regulation. Other strategies will also be negotiated, such as the European Water Resilience Strategy and the European Ocean Pact.

The Irish Presidency will take forward an agenda, focused on the central themes of competitiveness, values and security. In the field of research and innovation, it will mainly focus on an agreement on the Union´s budget for 2028-2034 (a new Multiannual Financial Framework). 

Irish Presidency will also aim to advance negotiations on the next EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme (Horizon Europe) and the proposed European Innovation Act. The Irish presidency programme can be found here.
