Changes in 2024 ERC grants evaluation explained

The European Research Council already agreed on the changes in Dec 2022. They make part of the 2024 Work Programme published in July 2023. Now, President of the ERC prof. Maria Leptin explains the rationale behind the changes.

These changes concern among others:

• new template for the applicant’s CV a track record (they are now one single document)
• number of PhD students and postdocs supervised by the applicant as a proof of "good mentorship" has also been excluded from the evaluation
• the famous term ‚high-risk, high-gain‘ has been deleted in favour of ‘ambitious’, ‘creative and original’
• evaluators are no longer asked to assess the ‚development of novel methodologies‘ in the proposed project
