About Us

The OMS-ERA (European Research Area Section of the Division of International Cooperation) is a dedicated section established at the CAS Head Office to increase the level of involvement of the CAS and its institutes in international activities focused on research, development and innovation, especially within the EU.

The OMS-ERA performs the following activities:

1. We serve as an information channel in the field of science and research for the CAS and the general public

The OMS-ERA conducts continuous monitoring of European science policy and the possibility of obtaining foreign financial support for research projects. In addition to professional and organisational support for the CAS management, OMS-ERA is also preparing a newsletter intended for CAS institutes as well as for the general public. The purpose of this newsletter is to complement the existing range of communication channels aimed at supporting research at the EU level in the Czech Republic and thus contribute to better awareness of the Czech scientific community about grants and other financial possibilities, as well as networking and educational opportunities in science.

2. We promote the interests of the CAS in the EU

The OMS-ERA also comments on legislative documents discussed at the EU level, prepares CAS position papers on current topics in European science policy (e.g., a position on the Horizon Europe Framework Programme) and advocates increasing personal presence of CAS representatives in relevant positions at EU institutions and advisory bodies.

3. We support project managers at CAS institutes

Through regular meetings and training, OMS-ERA supports the exchange of best practices between CAS institutes and the development of soft skills of staff at project offices that have been established at CAS institutes.

4. We provide direct support to ERC grant applicants

In cooperation with the Technology Centre of the CAS, OMS-ERA strives to increase the success of applicants for ERC grants and develops a special support system for this purpose.

5. We administer international multilateral cooperation projects

The OMS-ERA monitors current opportunities for multilateral cooperation and, in this area directly, administers the participation of the CAS in activities such as ERA-NET Cofund (NORFACE, HERA) and other multilateral platforms (EIG CONCERT-Japan, EU-KOR Community, SEA-Europe JFS).
